A Manchester-based startup that’s on a mission to revolutionise student rentals aims to have signed up one million students across the UK and US within the next 12 months.
Housr has just secured $10 million in private financing to fund its expansion Stateside and eventually across Europe. The all-in-one student platform, which was founded in 2021 by Harry Panter (pictured right) and Ben Clayton (pictured left) to help students make the most of their college experience, already boasts more than 70,000 student users in the UK.
Rentals, local perks, roommate-finding, and ridesharing are all accessible in the free-to-use, student-only app which also uses AI to eliminate the administrative hurdles that typically accompany the process of securing a rental property. Users swipe through properties and secure viewings, while landlords and letting agents can use it as a management portal.
Housr currently works with more than 50 UK-based letting agents through its platform and also deals directly with landlords who are paid £120 per home advertised with Housr, using its all-in-one billing platform. They can then manage bookings online and use a tenant chat feature.
“We are the marketplace for everything a student does that’s not their degree, in essence the operating system for students to help guide them through university life; everything from finding a home to matching with roommates and getting a discount off their daily coffee or beer,” says Panter.
Housr has ambitions for rapid expansion across US universities as a trusted off campus living partner. He tells LandlordZONE: “We have already established ourselves stateside and are now doubling demand on demand there. We are also in early talks with European universities, with Europe expansion on the cards.
“This financing is a powerful validation of our teamʼs vision and the measurable impact weʼre having on the student rental industry,ˮ he adds. “We aim to service one million students across the UK and US within the next 12 months. Our mission is to change student rental, forever.”
