Increasing numbers of retirees are stepping off the property ladder to rent

19 January 2016 – Girlings Retirement Rentals, the market leader in retirement rentals, is experiencing a busy start to 2016 as more retirees make it their New Year’s Resolution to downsize this year.

The company experienced an increase in enquiries in 2015 with the most sought after locations for retirement apartments being in the south of England.

The top five locations were Bournemouth, London, Cheltenham, Eastbourne and Portsmouth.

Peter Girling, Chairman, Girlings comments: “We had a significant uplift in the number of retired people looking downsize and rent on long-term tenancies last year and we expect demand to continue being strong throughout 2016.

“Many people in their 60s and 70s want to step off the property ladder and rent. Some no longer want the financial burden of home ownership and others want a fresh start – the chance to live in a new place and in a community with people of a similar age. Many are thinking ahead and planning a home that will be appropriate for their needs as they get older,” adds Mr Girling.
