Landlords brace for reform at sold-out NRLA gathering in London

Last Wednesday, the NRLA On Tour London event drew a full house of landlords, letting agents, and property professionals to a prestigious central London venue. The sold-out event offered a timely mix of legal updates, expert insights, and valuable networking; all aimed at helping landlords stay ahead in an increasingly complex rental market.

A standout session came from Paul Shamplina, founder of Landlord Action, who delivered a no-nonsense presentation focused on the legal challenges facing today’s landlords. Drawing on decades of experience, Shamplina offered clear, practical advice on managing risk amid recent and upcoming legislative changes. Eviction procedures and tenant rights were front and centre, with landlords gaining a clearer understanding of how to protect their properties while staying compliant.

The event was proudly sponsored by Total Property, whose continued support reflects their strong ties to the landlord community. One of the most discussed topics of the day was the upcoming reform of Section 21, which has major implications for eviction processes across England. Legal experts on the day provided much-needed clarity on the changes and offered guidance on how landlords should prepare.

Contributing to the wider conversation, Saadia Mahmood from Pure Estates addressed the often-overlooked importance of tenant education.

“Many tenants have never lived independently and haven’t been shown how to manage a home,” she said. “Supporting tenants to become better renters benefits everyone.”

Her remarks struck a chord with many attendees and reinforced the value of building constructive, long-term relationships between landlords and tenants.

Adding a personal touch, landlord John Edwards shared his experience with pet-related property damage while supporting proposed changes to pet ownership rules under the Renters (Reform) Bill.

“As a pet lover, I welcome clearer guidelines. With better-defined rules, landlords can protect their investments without excluding responsible tenants with pets.”

Overall, NRLA On Tour London proved to be a high-impact event that addressed the key concerns of landlords while fostering stronger connections within the sector. With free attendance for NRLA members and open access for non-members, the event showcased the real value of being part of the UK’s largest landlord association.
