This update on the coming changes and right-to-rent immigration checks is provided by Tessa Shepperson of landlord website – Landlord Law
You will probably have seen in the news, statements about the government’s intentions regarding rolling out right to rent checks nationwide, along with bigger fines (any maybe jail sentences), a ‘blacklist’ of rogue landlords & agents, new quicker eviction rules for tenants who lose their immigration status and so on.
You can see the government’s press release online >> here.
Please note that these are just statements of intent – none of them are currently in force.
However there is no doubt that the right to rent checks are going to be extended and not dumped, as many hoped, after the West Midlands trial.
To find out more, it is recommend you take a look at this with solicitor David Smith >> here where he discusses these and other changes coming soon.
You may also be interested in an ‘update’ workshop we will be running in Ely on 1st October 2015 where barrister Sam Madge Wyld (who some of you will have seen at our Cambridge Conference in April – see here – will be updating us all on the changes coming in.
You can find out more about this ‘update’ workshop (and book your place) >> here.
