Is this councillor offering Britain's most generous landlord deal?

Private landlords are being offered what is thought to be one of the UK's most generous letting and leasing deals by the Royal Borough of Greenwich in a bid to tackle its housing crisis.

The council’s improved scheme, which includes free training and support to good landlords in the borough and surrounding areas, matches them with people on the housing register to help reduce the numbers of people in temporary accommodation.

The scheme is free with no fees, commissions or charges, with rents paid at the Local Housing Allowance rate. Plus, if the property requires maintenance or improvement, landlords can get grants of up to £15,000 to bring it up to standard. Free training and support will be offered to help run and develop their business.

The scheme also provides landlords with the option to lease their property, removing the hassle of finding tenants, collecting rents and managing tenancies.

Guaranteed rent

This scheme provides guaranteed rent paid monthly in advance for the whole of the time that the property is leased to the council, including during void periods, and agreements can initially be for two to five years, with longer leases of 10 years or more also available.

Councillor Pat Slattery (main image), cabinet member for housing management, neighbourhoods and homelessness, says it is working continuously to reduce the number of households in hotels or bed and breakfasts, which currently stands at fewer than 50, but which is costly and doesn’t guarantee families with stability.

“We want people to have access to a safe and secure home that meets their needs, so if you are a landlord with a property to rent or to lease, get in touch with us today,” she adds. “We have attractive options and will work with you to provide the homes our residents really need.”
