With Scottish & Southern Energy becoming the first of the big six energy suppliers to announce substantial winter price hikes a growing number of cash strapped Britons are looking for ways to insulate themselves against the increased costs.

Secondary glazing, or in some cases third glazing, represents a very real, practical measure that could cut up to 20% off quarterly fuel bills and, at the same time, make their homes more eco friendly.

“It’s a no brainer,” explained John Feely, Director of Ecoease secondary glazing “and as we begin again on the annual round of announcements of increased energy costs from the big six suppliers we’re seeing a surge in interest in secondary glazing, a solution that costs a tiny fraction of installing double glazing.

“In fact it can be possible to secondary glaze the average UK house for less than it would cost to install double glazing on one single window!

“Our particular system is so easy to install and can be up and running in minutes using a magnetic strip around the inside of a window frame and a sheet of clear PET (polyester) glazing,” added John whose firm has recently introduced an easy Measure 2 Fit solution that’s widely available on websites such as nigelsecostore.co.uk, uswitch.com as well as www.ecoease.co.uk.

Architect Esmond Reid, who runs a practice in West London, is in full agreement: “It’s such a simple way of reducing energy costs and is also a perfect solution for Listed properties where double glazing is prohibited.

“We liked the system so much we’ve installed it at our offices. The fitting was straightforward and we did it ourselves!” added Esmond.

Ecoease is the only UK secondary glazing firm to supplier PET panels which are stronger and far more fire retardant than other options available within the market place as well as being the cheapest at around £65 per square metre including edging and magnetic strips.
