What do tenants really think of their landlords?
Quite well as it turns out! 77% of UK tenants rate their current landlords as “good” or “excellent”, although more than half of all tenants (56%) say that their landlord should to do more to help them. Interestingly the research also revealed the top gripes from both sides:
|Top landlord complaints about tenants||Top tenant complaints about landlords|
|1. Paid rent late (37%)||1. Hard to get hold of (23%)|
|2. Damaged contents in property (32%)||2. Used low quality tradesmen to carry out maintenance work/did it themselves (21%)|
|3. Damage to property itself (29%)||3. Refuses to fix broken items (17%)|
|4. Avoided paying rent at all (27%)||4. Broke promises (14%)|
|5. Made excuses for not paying rent (22%)||5. Nosey (12%)|
Landlords over the age of 55 were the least likely age group to have experienced the typical traits of bad tenants, although 36% had experienced damage to contents, 35% had experienced late payment and 31% had experienced damage to the property itself.
