The Residential Landlords Association has been recognised as the leading voice for landlords in the private rented sector at the industry’s most prestigious awards event.
Speaking after the RLA won the accolade of “Association of the Year” at the annual Landlord and Letting Show in Coventry, the third award in as many years, the RLA’s Chairman, Alan Ward said:
“With the private rented sector now seen as key to meeting the country’s housing needs, it is heartening to have been recognised by our peers for the work that the RLA is doing in providing a vital voice for landlords to Westminster and beyond.”
“As we look to 2013, welfare reforms, the need to boost housing supply, the Green Deal and planning changes will all provide both opportunities and challenges for landlords. The RLA is committed to being a constructive partner to policy makers of all parties.”
The RLA’s success capped off a remarkable awards evening which also included:
• RLA director Andy Burton winning the ‘Landlord of the Year’ award.
• The RLA receiving a special commendation for its website.
• The RLA’s landlord property management software providers, Property Portfolio Software, winning the ‘Best Supplier’ award.
• The RLA’s deposit protection scheme partners, TDS, receiving a special commendation for customer services.
The award itself completes an outstanding year for the RLA, which has seen membership numbers reach record levels, as well as key campaigning and service achievements. It also confirms the RLA’s status as the country’s best landlords’ association.
• The RLA represents over 16,000 private sector residential landlords in England and Wales.
• The association’s achievements in the last 12 months include:
- Launching... DepositGuard
DepositGuard– a partnership with the Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS) which provides RLA members with access to the lowest cost deposit protection service on the insurance-based market.
- Launching Homes for Britain – a major campaign that encompasses six major housing organisation and over 40 supporting organisations across the housing industry and political spectrum.
- Publishing the Ball Report – an influential, academic critique of the tax and legislative burdens facing the PRS.
- Securing concessions to the EU mortgage directive – by working closely with a cross-party group of British MEPs the RLA was able to protect the financial freedom for landlords.
- Leading a group of 18 housing organisation to campaign for changes to the Welfare Reform Bill,
