I still don't understand why Sky News has a special Tyne & Wear section. I have noticed that the stories there seem particularly gruesome.

Is it that the powers that be don't want to put those stories on the normal Sky News site so as not to shock us 'Southern Nancies'?

When I was at school our English teacher told us a story about when he was working in Tyneside teaching reading and writing to adults:

One old chap insisted on spelling everything in Geordie phonetics similar to LHA's sentence above. My teacher gave him an English dictionary and asked him to find any of the words. The man was disappointed not to, although the correct English spellings were there.

They had a field trip some time later, and a Norwegian lorry went past with the words: 'Brød For Folk' on the side of it.

'There, see man, I knew I was spelling correctly,' said the old chap.

(If you put 'Brød For Folk' into Google translate you can see what it means in English if you haven't already guessed.)
