There’s been an unusually sharp rise in rents recorded in Q4 2012 in Edinburgh and Aberdeen – an inflation busting 5.1% and 6.3% respectively on last year. The national average has also eased up more than normal at 2.3%... yet properties still rent faster.
As always, a number of factors in play but perhaps too the hard evidence of the effects of the Shelter campaign against all tenant fees. Will they acknowledge these figures? We think they should certainly provide food for thought. These are the average figures quoted which means some local areas will have experienced significant double digit rises.

I think this is an interesting report. I am not convinced that Shelter's recent action will affect the supply of properties available so it is probably more likely that any increase in rents has been fueled by an increase in demand.
It will be interesting to see if this trend continues though.
