Youth hostel

Can you help, i've recently got involved with managing a Youth hostel on a voluntary basis. Which is in an old Victorian House which is now used as a youth Hostel. The total number of beds is 56 on ground and first floors. It has only 2 exits - 1 front and one back. But no proper fire exits ie push bar to open doors. It has a new fire alarm system -but, where do I stand legally?

The same lack of formalities apply to things like risk assesments - hich are non-existant!

Is it registered with the YHA? Do they offer guidance on H&S and legal responsibilities?

Call an unscheduled evacuation drill @ 7:23 tomorrow. Document results.

Tell the directors/managers you plan on inviting the local fire service to give advice.

If their answer worries you consider your position.
