Hi

Can anyone shed some light for me? 3 months after moving, the owners of the flat I rent had to sell - I let through a letting agency - After 6 months, I received a two month notice period as the flat sold - then it fell through - just 2 weeks ago, I was told verbally as was my flatmate, we could stay on for an extension, probably until 1st April as opposed to 13 March - they now have a second buyer as of yesterday - we've been told we now have to stick to the original departure date of 13 March - great - so we've turned down property thinking we had more time -can they do this? is a verbal agreement binding? - any thoughts/knowledge appreciated!

Just tell them you will not be able to move out untill the 1st April, they can accept that or spend some money on trying to evict you which wont get you out before the 1st April anyway.

If your LL takes legal action after you stay on he may claim the legal costs incurred from you.

What you haven't probably picked-up is that the agent telling you the la ;) ndlord will let you stay until 1 April has probably voided the S.21 Notice as any such notice must be unconditional.

I feel that they might have to serve you with a new notice giving you at least 2 more months.

If there is proof that they gave you permission to stay on after the end of the term in March then they cannt renege on that anyway.
