What data sources do other investors/landlords use when choosing property to buy.

I use land registry data for house prices, www.ourproperty.co.uk is good if you have a specific property in mind as it gives you recent sales in neighbouring streets as well.

Also upmystreet.co.uk is good if you have a specific house in mind.

How would you get general data trends broken down by area on rents, earnings, unemployment, crime? I assume the government must publish figures on some of these things but I wouldn't know where to find them.

I would also be interested in data sources for other countries as well specifically, Italy, Austria, Bulgaria and Germany. Any ideas on how to find out house prices, yields for different countries?

Try www.mouseprice.com

This gives a very general view on the area e.g stats like how many men/women are in that area, what line of work dominates the area as well...

Give it a go it might help.

www.propertypriceadvice.co.uk will give you just about all you ask for above for the UK market.
