I have got a lounge which is going to be a lounge kitchen with a bathroom coming straight of it. Are there any building regs rules about kitchens being certain distances away from the bathroom?

It is a really awkward shape and the only place I can fit the kitchen is on a wall perpendicular to the wall with the bathroom door. It means my line of kitchen unit will end about 80cm from the bathroom door.

I haven't got a clue, but a very quick phone call to your local building control dept. should get you the answer in no time.

My building regs inspector has been off sick and no one was returning my phone calls but I just called the general helpline and they were very helpful. There are no rules so I can put the kitchen where I want.

Thanks

if the property is in Scotland all downstairs wc's require to have disabled access from 1st May 2007.
this applies to all work applied for after 1st may

ps if you have done this and haven't got permission you require to apply for permission and have it carried out to TODAYS regs.

in scotland it is the regs in force at the time of application you have to adhere to, NOT the regs that applied when the job was done.

You used to have to make sure there were two doors between kitchen and toilet. I don't know if that still stands though.

That two door thing is an old rule according to the person I spoke to at the council.

In this day and age of open plan living, that doesn't surprise me.

I once viewed a house with a toilet at the end of the bed! (Didn't buy it.)

Now that's what I call en suite. Perhaps you entered into a khasi-contractual obligation?
