I'm hoping to move in with my partner this year but I have really bad credit. I know that to let a property from a letting agency, you have to go through certain credit checks. Would i be able to live with my boyfriend but with the tenancy agreement in only his name. He has a very healthy annual income and good credit rating. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, but:
a. Tenancy Agreement will probably prohibit him from sharing possession, so make sure that you get WRITTEN permission from L for you to reside too;
b. if only your boyfriend is T, your position is a little fragile if (as sometimes happens) the parties fall out. You might then find yourself homeless, with no tenancy rights (eg if he skips and you continue to occupy); so
c. why not jointly approach L and explain that you'd like tenancy in joint names even though you personally have a bad record? Boyfriend + you cannot be a worse bet than boyfriend alone, so L has no real grounds to object.
