Hi.
I am concerned for my mother, please help if you can.
A man has been living in her outbuildings for the last six/seven months. He is there at the invitation of my mother. He has worked on the building, turning it into a dwelling - installing a fire, stairs etc. My mother is perfectly happy for him to be there and doesn't seem to mind that he pays no rent, uses her electricity and hot water.
However,
I am concerned because he is not what she thinks he is. He steals food from her, says nasty things about her behind her back and has admitted that he has no intention whatsoever of finding a job and 'entering the rat race and having to pay money to people'. He is obviously taking her for a ride and is costing her money. I am worried that when the day comes that he is revealed for the unpleasant character he is and mum asks him to leave, he will refuse and claim squatter's rights. Can he do this? What would we be able to do to evict him? It hasn't come to this yet, but I would like to be prepared. As for simply asking him to leave? I have the feeling it would be a big fat 'no'.
Thanks in advance.
