I wanted to know what my statutory protection is as a periodic tenant? I am paying a weekly rent. Thank you

Your rights are exactly as they were when you had a fixed term contract, with the exception of notice.

You must give a minimum of one months notice which must end on the last day of a tenancy week.

Your landlord must give you 2 months notice under section 21(4)(a) of the 1988 Housing Act before he may start court proceedings for possession.

I think that the minimum is 4 weeks, actually.

I think because the Protection from Eviction Act 1977 states that 4 weeks is the minimum notice period for a notice to quit to be valid.
So it's the minimum length of the notice period if the tenancy period is less than that (iirc at Common Law the rule is just "one tenancy period").
