We're just buying our first residential BTL and hope to complete by end December, ready to let in January. Can anyone recommend a decent letting agent in Leicester? Or failing that, any advice on how to select an agent?

I've got information from a few agents and checked the websites of many more. My feeling is that an agent that is going to find tenants quickly should have a good internet presence (probably on Rightmove at least). But that's just because the internet is where I'd go to find a place, so do those of you with more experience think this doesn't matter.

All recommendations/advice greatly appreciated.:)

Have you read the Rental Property Questions forum at all? You will find that where people have experienced problems with their letting agent, those agents complained about most (but not exclusively) are unregulated. You should draw your own conclusions from that.

Good luck.

Use few agents. In lettings by law there can't be sole agency agreement. With few agents. I'll get more potential tenants through the door.
Also, if you are local to the property, why not try diy lettings. This would save you 5-10% of your income!

Please explain to members the second sentence of your reply: "In lettings by law..."
