Both myself and my landlord have found that the letting agency we used are very unreliable to say the least. They told us we were entering a ten month contract, then changed the paperwork so it was only for 9months requiring us to move out during exams. I complained to the landlord, who has decided to put it in writing that he agrees to extend the tenancy by 30 days on the terms of the original agreement. Is this ok? I mean he has signed it and specified all the tenants names

Probably- hard to confirm without seeing it.
Slight problem if extra month is more than 3 months away- to do with future leases and Land Registration Act 2002, but much too complex to summarise here.
That would be absolutely fine. I have no idea what the above poster was talking about.
