I am considering ridding myself of the services of my letting agent and just need to clarify the situation regarding my tenants deposit. The agents hold the deposit as "agents for the landlord". Are they legally obliged to hand the deposit over to me or do there legal responsibilities lie with the tenant? Thanks in advance.

Such matters should be referred to in the terms of business that you have signed with the agent to which reference should be made when terminating your agreement with him. If the deposit is held as described, the agent should forward it on to you on termination of your agreement. Your tenant will look to you, not your ex-agent for return of this deposit at the appropriate time.
