I agree with this idea as there are untold numbers of threads on this forum that require some basic information of the thread starters in order to facilitate accurate and valuable replies by respondents.
But I would say to provide this information as per my suggestion in Post #10, which is to make the questions a requirement before a posting is accepted by the thread starter, through the use of check boxes and radio buttons.
I would be willing to contribute to ideas or come up with a format idea for this.

I agree that it's a good idea to have some kind of questionnaire to be completed before a member can post in the residential lettings section (but I think this should only pop up the first time a member posts). Ideally, the questionnaire answers would appear as an annex to the first post. But I suspect this may be technically tricky, so a sticky would probably suffice - we could then link to the sticky and tell OP they need to answer the questions in it.
The questions proposed here strike me as too few to cover what we usually need to know. I propose the following:
If your post is regarding a residential tenancy, please provide the following information:
Confirmation that the property is in England/Wales (note that there is a Scottish section of the forum)
Whether you are the landlord or the tenant
The date (dd/mm/yy) that the fixed term of the most recently agreed contract began
The length of the fixed term (including end date if specified in the contract)
Whether rent is payable monthly, or weekly etc
Whether a deposit was paid, and if so, whether it has been protected with an approved scheme, and the prescribed information provided to the tenant (including dates each action performed)
Whether the landlord is resident or not
Whether the rental property is a flat/house, or a room in a shared property (and if the latter, whether the property is an HMO)
Whether it's a joint tenancy or a let to an individual
Whether the contract contains a break clause - if so, give exact wording
Whether any rent is owing and unpaid, and if so, indicate how much
If your query relates to a notice between landlord and tenant, please also state:
The date the notice was served (if posted, and you are the landlord, also give date of posting)
The type of notice (e.g. s.21(1)(b), s.21(4)(a), s.8 notice)
If a s.8 notice, the grounds which are cited
The expiry date or effective from date (exact wording)
If you are the landlord, whether you obtained proof of service

You could have it as standard cut and paste in your replies 'atlo' "Hi happy to help, but we need some basic info" etc.
That might work until the powers that be deign to consider your most sensible request/suggestion...........

I think we should leave things as they are.

To avoid repetitve questions may I suggest that OPs be invited to complete a standard sticky TA questionnaire eg
type of Tenancy
start date
amount deposit apid
whether deposit protected in approved scheme
fixed period duration
rent payable and frequency
rent due dates
move out date
Dates & type of Notices served

Mariner - most of that is way toooo complicated for some the the impulsive OPs on this site. The amount who don't even know what is in their AST or contract with agent amazes me.
Artful - Aphid?
