registering for self assessment & tax return - 2 YEARS LATE!!

hi there,

i started renting out my flat in July 2009 and at the time was unable to register for self assessment & tax return (due to illness). Now i've really let it slip by!

it's Jan 2011 and I obviously need to register.

I was wondering if I could still claim expenses/allowances for 2009 or would they be exempt?

Also, what's likely to happen (because of being so late), would they include tax payments on rental income from 2009 along with 2010-11's? and would I have to pay it in a lump sum?

You're not late. Income from April 2009 - March 2010 is due to be declared in a tax return that has to be submitted by 31 January 2011. Ring your tax office (details on your payslip) and ask for a tax return. Also register to complete it ONLINE otherwise you'll have to pay £100 (or something).
