Just wondering if anyone has experienced frozen waste pipes?

The U bend inside the house is clear. The tenants have poured hot water, but that has not worked.

Are others eperiencing this?

I called Dynarod - they had a 45mins wait to answer calls! Just hung up.

Try a bottle of Mr Muscle (or equivalent) drain unblocker; or Kil-Block.

Are the waste pipes external, if so they need gentle warming. If they are under ground they can freeze with the cold weather, especially if they are older pipes and quite shallow. Warm water would only move a slight blockage, and it likely fat and washing machine waste, perhaps trapping other items which has frozen and needs breaking up with heat or a mechanical tool. Mr Muscle unblocks sinks.

I would never try dyna rod, there are many good drain clearance companies who are focused on solving the problem, and not so after sales orientated.

Not clear which waste pipes you are referring to??? Are the attached to sinks etc internal to the house or are they on external walls (not that you would expect to finsd them there but anything is possible!!)

I have four hot water bottles and am planning to lay them around a frozen external waste pipe

Then go to B & Q and buy some external insulation wrap, even invest in trace heating for it.

You might be better off with a good hair drier, but not the wife's, as you are unlikely to be let back inside before new year 2011!

I don't see why not. It won't harm the hairdrier, will it?

And which wife are you talking about anyway? (Alternatively, which century do you think you are in?)

Still suffering from gruaniad poisioning I see.

Ask any normal couple if the husband used the wife hairdrier to warm pipes the reaction is most unlikely to be appreciation of the practicality and would involve threats of, if not actual, violence!

If a man used his own hair drier he is unlikely to be cross with himself. Der...
