Well, finally a friend helped me out and found someone at home, that would replace my broken toilet for £200 instead of the Agents quote of £400 and the patio doors that need replacing because the runners have broken, can be done for £700 instead of the Agents initial quote of £1000. I'ts not been easy sorting it out whilst over here in Dubai though on my rented houses.

Do you have experience with agents like this, are their quotes always very high, do you get the impression everybodies profiting except me?

Anyway, is there a chance I can claim for this type of repairs on my buildings insurance?

kind regards
Alex

It depends on your insurance policy - whether it covers accidental damage and whether its a "new for old" policy ..

If the toilet was broken as a result of damage it is possible you may claim providing you have the above.

In my experience, a broken runner ona D/glazed patio door is wear & tear, so would not be covered by insurance.

Now that you have made these contacts, keep them for another time .. and whilst you're "in mode" why not get a list of contractors at the ready, so if anything else goes wrong, you can instruct the Agent to use these contractors first for quotes, before using their own.

Your insurance should not be seen as a substitute for maintaining your property.

Thanks Pippay for your post, it's good advice.

My properties are maintained though, just enquiring as to whether I can legally and rightfully claim back. Many thanks.

You're very welcome !

There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't claim on your insurance if it is a valid claim .. that's what your paying your premiums for !!
