View Full Version : Can mother of RTB purchaser claim HB?
I am in the proccess of buying my councill home. I will receive 50% discount :D which is welcome. I also want to buy my mums house also because she has 70% discount.
My girl friend wants to move in with me, she is a single parent who is entitled to housing benifit.
My mum is near the age of retiring and will be eligeable for housing benifit.
my question is...... is there anyway I can access or use their housing benifits to help with the mortgage's?
any advice would be greatfull

Seeing as you are buying the properties at a substantial discount, why not pay the mortgage yourself rather than being another burden on the benefits system?

That answered my question
thanx!

The simple answer is NO.
Why should tax payers pay your mortgages? Many of us have our own to pay anyway! Do a serch on ths forum and you will see many questions just like yours.

I'm not surprised you're :D at a 50% discount, and also trying to obtain a further 70% discount from your mothers property.
If only they would scrap the right to buy. I personally think it stinks.

Im Not! asking tax payers to pay my mortgage... I am asking if there is a possibillty of me obtaining some help, by using the system to my advantage.
are u all whiter than snow in here and never used the system to your advantage (MY @RSE).
Fools!
you all duck n dive and plead poverty!! if u can help me then dont post...
if u want to give me a bashing on morality DON'T BOTHER!
@sshole!
If you can't afford the mortgage then you should not be buying the property! You already have a nice 50% doscount on one and are going for 70% on another.. ppl like you are the reason that many of the genuine tenants on here cannot get rehoused.
Oh and a word of warning to you .. a guy is currently in jail cos he and his G/F cooked up a scheme like yours.. he bough the house and she claimed benefits to pay the mortgage. They have lost their house, kids and are now serving time for what they did .. and they owe money still! .. So if you want to take that chance go ahead.. but dont come crying to this forum when it all falls down around your ears...
Oh and my mother always said something to me and my siblings when we rowed.... IF YOU DON'T HAVE SOMETHING NICE TO SAY DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL! You asked a question just cos you did not get the answer you wanted does not mean you can abuse me.

Makes my blood boil when I learn of citizens who play the system to their selfish advantage by using MY tax money.
The time is long overdue to end the right to buy council property. It's unsustainable.
Another thing that really annoys me is when people do not appreciate the answers and advice freely given by members of these forums.
Have a nice day.

I asked for some advice... and got some very cheeky replies... all i wanted to know was if there was a possible way to use the system to my advantage without offending anyone or breaking the law!
you have all got pissed off because I want to do this...... if it aint possible then fine... I have got enuff discount that it wont be a problem but if i am entitled to something I would have liked to have made aware of that.
thanks for nothing!

Yes Poppy, but from the selfish point of view, it has created a good resale market for cheap purchases of three-bed houses, when ex-council tenants don't keep up payment of the mortgage, and let the place get run down.
These properties are very easily let, as they provide lots of accommodation.

Presumably when she moves in with you her entitlement to benefit(s) will change!
My mum is near the age of retiring and will be eligeable for housing benifit.
Depends on HER circumstances!
Benefits are supposed to be a safety net for those who really need them unfortunately the system is open to abuse by people who feel the world owes them something, "the system " has to be paid for by those of us who are paying our taxes!
