I am currently letting out a flat with which I pay a monthly service charge. This includes buildings insurance (with accidental cover). I have permission to let from the management company.

The flat is unfurnished (other than white goods).

Do I need any additional cover? I cant see why I would need contents cover when there is nothing in there (or at least nothing that would cost more than an excess to replace).

I presums that if there was any damage to floors (e.g. flooding), walls, or windows, I would be covered by buildings insurance?

Thanks

We had an investment flat with the same sort of set-up as you mention. We did not have any additional insurance. The tenants paid their own contents insurance.

the building insurance you have though is it landlords insurance?
there is a difference between these policies.

Have you properly assessed the contents of your flat? Let me give you some food for thought. As a professional landlord you should buy contents insurance and tell the insurer that the place is rented. The purpose of the contents insurance is to cover your white goods, your flooring, your décor, your bathroom furniture, your kitchen furniture, your radiators, your boiler. Surely these things cost more than the excess to replace should a serious problem arise or have you overlooked them?

Hi Poppy, I have what is called landlord building insurance. Does this only cover me for subsidence, flooding etc or does it also incorporate decor, radiators, boiler?
this might be stating the obvious but why not read your policy
