The electricity is being charged to our office by the landlord (business centre with lots of offices) rather than an electricity company.

My questions are:
1. Can the business centre charge more than their supplier for the electricity?
2. Does 11p per unit sound about right knowing that it used to be 6-7p per unit a few months ago?

Landlords can legitimately re-sell electricity.
Not sure about the rates they can charge but there are now some guidelines for residential properties - see:

Suggest you contact the electricity suppliers for help with this.

There is no restriction on resale price of electricity for business use (as I understand it) though there is on residential. 11p a unit sounds fair to me. There have been enormous increases recently.

Ok, thanks for the help, I'll check with the electricity supplier.

I have a contract with British Gas for Electricity, the renewal of which (last November) I didn't sign but it was one of those that if you didn't cancel then it automatically continued and I am tied in for two years, but the price is guaranteed not to increase so perhaps I'll see the benfit over the term considering the increases that are occurring. I pay 10.9 pence per day unit and about 7.5 pence for night units.

I should point out that another broker/provider looked at my account and said they could save me about 25-30% on day units but very little on night units (about 5%). Unfortunately I couldn't swap over.
