Hello

I live in a conservation zone in London in a lower ground floor 1 bed flat. There are 6 other flats in the building (only one of which is privately owned like mine). I'd like to add a side / rear extension in order to add another bedroom.

I understand that as a leaseholder I need to gain written freeholder consent in order to get planning consent for an extension. My freeholder is Hackney Council...

Is it possible to get freeholder consent for an extension from a local authority? Has anyone successfully done this with Hackney? Who should I contact to request the consent?

To date i've not been able to get past the Neighbourhood office manager who isn't very intelligent and doesn't understand my request, what it means, or who in the organisation I need to speak to.

Any advice very much appreciated!

Thanks

If your lease demands such consent, simply write (don't telephone/e-mail) to the Council's Legal Department and request consent.
Quote applicable payment codes and references (ground rent/ service charge).
