I intend on purchasing a house in London to convert to 2 flats. I know i need planning permission to do this, but what are my chances of the conversion being approved?

Do there need to be other converted houses on the street?

A specific number of guaranteed parking spaces?

Would appreciate any help as do not want to purchase the house without knowing that i will get the PP.

Cheers

Contact the Council's planning department - they will know policy and any local issues. You are just exploring the issues, not making a commitment to anything.

We've just got PP for a flat conversion (not London) and the conditions of the approval include that the parking spaces shown on our drawing remain available for car parking and can't be used for anything else.

Whilst we agree with the condition as it was what we wanted to provide only 100 yards away the same authority approved 5 new low income houses without any parking at all on the basis, I assume, that the tenants won't have cars!

Needless to say there are now up to 10 cars parked around the area every night causing access difficulties!

Local authority prats!

Be sure the property is at least 130m2, any less than that then you can forget about gaining permission. In addition the ground floor flat would be required to be a family unit with 3 bedrooms and access to the garden.
