I had a repair carried out on one of my BTL properties on 2nd April.

The repair was paid for on a business cheque and the cheque has cleared today (6th April).

Which tax year do I need to file the receipt for 05/06 or 06/07...?

All income and expenses are declared on an arising basis and not when it is actually received or paid.

Therefore, the expense belongs to, and should be declared in the tax year 2005-06.
