Let on AST or five-year fixed term?

Hi im new to renting and was wondering weather you prefer having a AST tenancy or a long term tenancy (i.e. 5 year leases)

What are the dis/advantages of each option??

an 'ast' stan, i am not even going to bother explaining, just trust me.
