Hi,

I was just wondering why there would be a surveyor coming as well to inspect the flat? We have never had this while we rented, although we have had inspection visits before in other properties. I was just wondering if anyone could shed any light on this?

Thanks

Perhaps the owner needs the surveyor to assess:

property's market value
the rebuild value
the structure's condition
future works

Thanks Poppy

The flat has been done up and is modern so I hope they aren't deciding to sell it. We have only been here 2 months and left our last place because it was sold.

Owner may be remortgaging - that would require a surveyor for valuation purposes. If owner was considering selling, would probably only be estate agents visiting to give their valuations, rather than a surveyor.

Ah that makes more sense. Thanks Mrs Jones!

Unless, of course, estate agents had already been round and the tenant was non the wiser...

I doubt it. I work from home so it would be pretty hard to get by me in the sitting room! OH is currently looking for a job as well so he is at home a lot.

The fact is you cant really be sure who the other bloke is.

Why not just ask what the inspection is for? See if the LL blushes if you ask if he is thinking of selling.

I suspect its a valuation...maybe the LL already has a buyer lined up; a family member?

I will ask when they come on Tuesday.

If it is for a valuation we will get over it. That's one of the lows of renting I suppose - no real home security. The sooner we buy again the better!
