I once had a middle aged man came and spoke to me about how he's father (my tenant) had "passed away" and that he would clear the flat out..I was almost in tears with the grief he looked like he was suffering..he returned a few days later with the keys and I returned the deposit to him so the matter could be cleared up quickly...low and behold a miracle I bumped into my 80 year old tenant 2 weeks later in the local supermarket....once again do not believe anyone, always demand to see the death certificate it's a sign of the times

And for some strange reason when I posted this on Landlord Zone my posting was moved to "Take a break" for the less serious

What are my rights regarding witholding the deposit in lieu of notice?

I could tell you what I think, but I wouldnt want anyone to get the idea that Landlords are money-grabbing, tight-fisted mean people that the stereotype of them is!

My tenant died suddenly. According to the tenancy agreement he has to give 2 months notice,

These tenants think they can do what they like don't they? What's so hard about giving a couple of months notice of your impending demise.

I just bet this ends up in TaB.
