I am a Director of a Charity which rents office space from another Charity (QEF). Our lease is to terminate shortly and QEF wish to increase the rental by a very significant amount e.g. up to 300%. Can they just do this or have we a right to appeal? Are there any legal safegurds to prevent a landlord making draconian increases?

This is a commercial property question and you will have to consult your tenancy agreement to see the rights of the landlord to increase rent. You also don't give nearly enough information about the terms of your lease except that it's up for renewal. Can you post as much information as possible? Is it under the Landlord & Tenant Act 1954 (probably) where you have renewal rights. How long was it for, what rent reviews have you ahd in the past etc.? Your landlord is probably only trying to obtain a current rental value and may have taken advice from a Chartered Surveyor.
You normally use comparisons with similar property nearby if you are able.
There is a separate forum for commerical property questions accessed from the top of the page and you might get even more answers. This forum is for residential lettings mainly.
The Editor Tom has a good knowledge of commercial lets and if he reads the post he will normally reply.
