Inventory?

My agent has re-let my property, but has included in it a washing machine left by the previous tenants on the inventory. The washing machine doesn't work, and surprise surprise the tenants want me to repair it. I don't actually want to, because I didn't supply it and I don't think its fair I should. The tenants were complaining about the furniture, so I agreed with them to have it removed. The agent and the tenants were present, and the agent specifically told them that the washing machine wasn't going to be my responsiblity. I have recently found out that they have more people in the property than on the agreement. One of the these 'new' people approached the agent and asked to change the agreement, or make another one. The agent refused to do this.

Is this problem the agents fault, for putting it on the inventory, when they knew I don't supply appliances? What would be the best possible course of action to take, with regards to the extra people, and the agreement? What can I do?
