Hi,
I'm writing on behalf of a friend of mine. She's living in a shared house, it's got 3 bedrooms, shared kitchen, living room and bathroom. She's 24 and currently shares the property with a guy of around 45, the other room is vacant. She has two real issues with this guy, the first is that he's almost permanently drunk when not at work and constantly makes little sexual remarks, looking her up and down. She doesn't feel at ease with the guy and although she hasn't said it I think she feels threatened too. Secondly, this guy does absolutely no cleaning, not even in the kitchen and she's finding herself cleaning up after him as of course she doesn't want to live in filth. This guy also has his daughter stay over every weekend who often has her mates round, creating more mess.
Is there anything she can do about this guy? I don't think she feels comfortable talking to him about these things (she rarely sees him when he's not drunk anyway), but does the landlord have an obligation to do anything? As far as the cleaning goes, is it the landlord's responsibility to keep the communal areas clean or atleast to enforce that this guy does his bit of cleaning?
Can anybody advise?
Thanks,
Jim.
