Hello,
I am an expatriate who is on a working/studying visit in the U.K. I rented a 2 bed room apartment from a letting agent for almost 2 months. Although this agency is fairly effecient in collecting whatever is due from me and deducting my account promptly for rent, they do not bother even replying to my complaint of non functioning lighting in this unit from the start. Eversince I have lived here I have noticed the building maintenance is appalling. On New year's eve, a few rascals damaged the lights and signs in the building and no one took notice. The elevators have stopped working and no one has come to repair it. I have given up having to complain to this letting agency as their answer is simple "we have no idea who the caretaker of this building neither does the landlord". To be honest i have no idea who is in-charge of managing this building?
They are not helpful and does not seem to be keen on even repairing items which are part of the electrical problem in the unit I am renting.
I am hoping that someone will be able to advice me on what needs to be done to assure that this letting agency will be better committed to their responsibilities and at least tell me how to report any faults to the building. Is there a tribunal or a local governing body that handles these sort of cases?
I would gladly find another agent or a new appartment unfortunately I am still bounded by a contract that is going to last for another 4 months. I hope someone could advice me accordingly:(
