View Full Version : Retrieving old threads/ searching LZ
Can anybody tell me if it is possible to retrieve posts before 2008?
It seems to me that yet more learned wisdom and elegant debating has been lost ( i had a whine a couple of years ago if you remember Jeffrey)
For example, type in "lawstudent" into the main forum macro search and hardly anything appears.

As far as I know, all posts are (like the answer) 'out there'- somewhere! It depends what search criteria are used.
I find that the "SEARCH" option works better than the macrosearch; try that, instead.

We've recently upgraded the Macro-Search so both searches should now be equally effective - in theory you should be able to find any post going back several years.

I've just realised what you meant, there.
One cannot access members' names on the usual 'Search' or 'MacroSearch'.
Instead, use 'Community'; then 'Members List'; then 'Search' or 'Advanced Search'.

However, unless the (highly unpopular) tendency to interfere, to divide and to merge threads is discontinued, trying to search for a thread you know existed at one time will be a futile pursuit. The best you can hope for will be to search for a post from that original thread (assuming you can remember some distinctive lexical item from it).
Good luck.

Yes. Searches should be by:
a. word [apparently LZ cannot search by phrase];
b. the posting member's name; or
c. a range of dates
