Tennant / Lodger Contract query

I am in the process of renting a room/separate lounge in a house which is owned and lived in by the landlord.

The only problem i can see is that the landlord does not want to sign a contract or even have a rent book. Is this a problem ?

If the LL lives in the property you would be a lodger which gives you no security of tenure.

Basically the LL can ask you to leave at any time without notice and you have to go, or you can decide to go at anytime and there's nothing the LL can do.

For the rent, just make sure the LL signs something to acknowledge he's received it everytime you give him any money if it's in cash.
If you pay by cheque or direct debit the bank will be able to trace it in any case.
