Registered freehold property: where are my deeds?

DEED problem**************** i recently got my property freehold from abbey national, but i only got a copy of the certificate but i still have not got my orgianl deeds. when i contacted land registry they said they stop given the deeds and only give copies of the registry certificate. is ithis really the case? can somenoe shed some light into this complex matter. thanks

The Land Registration Act 2002 changed matters. The Land Registry now are the custodians of the records of who owns registered property.

Any deeds held are now of only historical use.
