University of Aberdeen Business School (UABS) was formed in August 2002 by a merger of the departments of Accountancy-Finance, Economics, Property and Management.

The Department of Real Estate and Planning was established in 1968 and is the largest department in the country for teaching and research in real estate. The Department's aims are to maintain the highest standards of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching for the real estate industry and to undertake internationally recognised, leading edge research into real estate, planning and land.

The College of Estate Management is the leading international body providing distance learning education and training to the property professions and construction industry. Its courses are designed to help students to: - obtain a professional qualification - develop a post-qualification specialisation - undertake their work more effectively - develop lifelong learning skills. Students from over 70 countries are currently registered on College courses.

The real estate investment industry is constantly changing. The continuing application of developing finance and investment techniques to real estate; globalisation; securitisation; changing technology; corporate re-structuring - all of these present a critical need for flexible and dynamic training provision within the industry.

The School of Urban and Regional Studies offers courses, research and consultancy in the subject areas of land and property, including geography, town and country planning, environmental management, transport, urban policy, property development and management and housing management and administration. The School has a current enrolment of nearly 1200 students on full and part-time courses, from diplomas to doctorates in areas.

Commercial Property Courses

Property Management - within the Business School Common Core framework, students may study a Minor stream in Property Management. This can be combined with a wide range of Major streams offered within the Business School. For all large organisations, the management of their property portfolio is an important aspect of their business. Retail groups, leisure groups, manufacturing organisations, the education and health sectors all have very large investment in buildings and property.

The School of Construction and Property Management offers world-class research opportunities both to advance knowledge and to meet the need for continuing professional development. Our knowledge and expertise has been developed collaboratively with industrial and research partners and is shared through specialist networks and centres of excellence.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors – RICS – is one of the most respected and high profile global ‘standards and membership’ organisations for professionals involved in land, property, construction and environmental issues. The School of Land and Property Management is responsible for research, teaching and consultancy in Property Valuation and Management, Facilities Management and Building Surveying. It has close links to professional bodies in its area such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, The Incorporated Society of Valuers and Auctioneers and the British Institute of Facilities Managers.
