Clampdown on landlords in Scotland

A TENANTS group has applauded tough measures used by council bosses to force rogue landlords to fall into line with new rules.

The Linwood Tenants and Residents Action Group have welcomed Renfrewshire Council’s hard-hitting policies that are being used to persuade private landlords to register with the local authority.

Five local landlords have been hit with rent penalty notices by Renfrewshire Council with the notices being the council’s latest weapon in its drive to actively identify and act against rogue landlords.

The penalty notices hit unregistered landlords in the pocket by banning them from collecting rent while preventing them from evicting their tenants.

All five landlords immediately decided to sign up after receiving the notices, which have a seven-day activation period.

A spokesman for the Linwood group warned landlords who are not signed up to the council register that they are playing a risky game. Full Article
