specialist accounting packages on the market right now for
Landlords and Letting agents. However, what most landlords
want is not necessarily a very specialised package which takes
forever to learn and understand. They would prefer a general
accounting package which can be bought for a reasonable price.
Unfortunately, there are not many choices in this regard:
Quicken (now obsolete and no longer available in the UK), and
Microsoft Money don't follow a true business accounting double
entry system (being designed for home use). Sage, on the other
hand does follow double entry but is quite difficult to learn
and rather expensive.
A new contender in the marketplace is Accountz - again a
general market product with good backing, but one with quite
unique accounting properties. It's one of the easiest accounting
packages to learn
you'll ever experience and uses true double entry principles.
It's rapidly
becoming recognised as a product to more than challenge the
existing ones on offer, and at a price that's hardly comparable.
We've adopted these packages for our own use so we have
experienced them in practice What's more we have been working
with the designers to come up with some information sheets, examples
and specialised modules specifically for property management -
watch this space!
Personal Accountz - as the name
implies, is designed for home accounts or for the small business
without the need for VAT. It's a full blown double entry
accounting system without the complication or cost of a
comparable one like Sage. It can easily be adapted for use as a
basic landlord's accounting package with property management
capabilities. Ideally suited for the small landlord with perhaps
up to 5 properties, plus it can also cope with all your personal
accounts, investments and tax returns etc.
Business Accountz - is
designed for the small to medium sized business with or without
VAT. Again, it's a full blown double entry based package with
outstandingly straightforward and easy of use systems. The rapid
entries techniques used on both these packages cut entry work to
the absolute minimum. It has the capability of handling any
business accounting job or for property management with an
unlimited number property accounts. For the large portfolio
landlord or letting agent this general purpose accounting
package can handle it all. It might not have the property
management sophistication of one of the big specialised property
packages, but as a general accounting package it can handle a
the lot with great reliability and value for money.
